| PURPOSE: | Technical Certification of SGI Resellers |
| DURATION: | June 2, 1997 to September 22, 1997 |
| SCOPE: | Over 2,000 pages of finished training documentation and certification exams |
BACKGROUNDSilicon Graphics Inc. (SGI) is a leader in high-end computer graphics workstations and servers. SGI resells these systems through Value Added Dealers (VADs) and Value Added Resellers (VARs), which are collectively referred to as resellers. SGI contracted with Instruction Set, of Framingham, MA, to develop the training and exam components necessary to prepare and certify technical professionals in product line knowledge. Tom Rivelli subcontracted on the project full-time for the entire duration as a W2 employee through a recruiter, working as a Course Developer within a team of approximately 12 people. On-site work at SGI for him averaged 2 days per week, with the remainder of the full-time work load accomplished off-site. THE METHODTom Rivelli wrote classroom training and self-study modules, some completely, and some partially with other team members. His contribution covered recently released state-of-the-art Desktop Systems Products: O2, OCTANE, Origin200. The modules are now included in the resulting Classroom Training Workbook and the subsequent Self Study Guide (which parallels the classroom training modules). Development platforms included FrameMaker on both SGI IRIX and Windows 95, and IRIS Showcase (for graphics). "Module 2: Introduction to O2" is one example of a module which Tom wrote independently, and in entirety. Samples are available. THE RESULTSThe rollout was scheduled for early October, 1997. Expectations are that the development of a strong network of knowledgeable certified professionals will increase the position strength of the SGI product line. |
